A Song of Joy for the Grandmothers

I am continuing with my Ancestral Work for my family lineages. This time, I am working with the grandmothers of my paternal lineage. During the healing process, they requested a song to celebrate the joy they received from releasing pain and sorrow.

To honor them, I set an intention to sing a song dedicating to the women in my lineage — to remember the hardships they went through, to celebrate their gifts, lives and expressions. I wish to honor them as empowered and wise women whom the culture once suppressed and confined. May they move forward free of the burdens of the past and fill with joy, peace and light.

We release the sorrow
that once weighed our spirits down
We remember the pain
that bound us to the past

We honor our past
We choose to move forward
with joy, wisdom and strength
We honor ourselves
as women of wisdom keepers
We set ourselves free
from the bondage that once held us

We celebrate our gifts & beauty
Through the gentle whisper of songs & words
Our lives and stories are celebrated and remembered

We are whole
We are love
We are free
We are powerful

We return to love, peace and joy
